I’m Not the Bad Guy
by
Mark M. DeRobertis
Another time I might have let it all be
I would have thought that nature was right
But things are diff’rent now, especially me
Since I became a part of this light
I’m trapped I have no command
This thing I don’t understand
I’m just a prisoner here
I can’t keep track of the years
I’m learning more about the universe law
It’s not a bit like I had been taught
The evolution of the life that I saw
Is something no one had ever thought
I’m not involved with this thing
It’s not what I want to bring
To my home planet of earth
The world and place of my birth
Destruction happens every place that I’ve been
I try my best to make it all stop
I thought I could from the position I’m in
But when I let go it doesn’t drop
You’ll learn about it and then you’ll blame it on me
You would not doubt it and no one could truly see
I can’t save the worlds out here
Cosmic wave, a force to fear
Throughout time and throughout space
Like shoestrings I’m about to lace
If I could I’d end it now
I surely would if someone simply tells me how
But who can know
And just in case
Where do I go
Is there a savior out here in space
I still remember when I signed up for space
It was the best thing I ever did
I got a thrill like when you’re winning a race
It made me feel like I was a kid
But...I should have known
A time would come...foretelling doom
What...was never shown
Was I’m the one...and just how soon
I...still can’t believe
It now appears...to be my fate
My...eternal grief
Is now my fear...that it’s too late
Do you believe I wanted to let it be so
Don’t you believe I’d rather have let it all go
Just...how can I keep
This nat’ral force...away from earth
Must...it simply creep
A random course...for what it’s worth
So many people back on earth counting on me
When I arrive there will they know how it will be
Will...they feel the pain
Will it be slow...or is it fast
Still...will it remain
Or will it go...into the past
I’m not the bad guy...I’m not the bad guy
I’m not the bad guy just ‘cuz you think I am
I’m not the bad guy...I’m not the bad guy
I’m not the bad guy just ‘cuz you think I am
I’m not the bad guy...I’m not the bad guy
I’m not the bad guy just ‘cuz you think I am
Galaxies are endless and the universe they populate is vast...in all eternity
All that I can hope for is the planet that I’m from will be the last
Of all the worlds I see again
